LAKE SANT’ANGELO
In the Municipality of Casoli there is this artificial basin which was formed in 1958 by the damming of the Aventino river, to feed the Acea power plant in Selva d’Altino. Nearby we also point out the medieval Torre di Prata.

TARANTA PELIGNA
It rises in the valley of the high course of the Aventino river, on the slopes of the eastern Majella. There are many religious buildings such as the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Valle which is located at 520 meters above sea level within a forest of oak and chestnut trees. It has very ancient origins: built in 1212 by Napoleon III. the Church of San Nicola di Bari (1300), the fifteenth-century Church of the Holy Trinity which is located in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Simbruini Mountains, in the valley where the Simbrivio is born, a tributary of the Aniene. The Military Shrine of the Majella Brigade, a small chapel dedicated to the fallen of a partisan formation, stands on a rocky outcrop overlooking the village. A must see is also the Grotta del Cavallone, which opens onto a cliff at an altitude of 1475 m. and is rich in concretionary formations.

PALENA
The town, of medieval origin, rises between the Porrara and Coccia mountains to dominate the upper Aventine Valley. The territory of Palena is characterized by its floristic richness linked to its variegated morphology that it finds in the eastern slope of the Majella. Among the monuments of interest there are several churches, such as the one dedicated to San Falco (XII century), the Chiesa del Rosario, near the central square (XVIII century) or even the Hermitage of the Madonna dell'Altare, founded by the Celestini . The Ducal Castle is also very suggestive, located in the highest part of the town dating back to the 11th century.
